What Are Be Verbs?
Be verbs are the most fundamental verbs in English. They connect the subject of a sentence to additional information about that subject. The three present tense forms are am, is, and are.
When to Use Each Form
Am
Use with “I”
Is
Use with he, she, it, and singular nouns
Are
Use with you, we, they, and plural nouns
Examples in Context
Am: I am happy. I am a student.
Is: She is talented. The cat is sleeping. Tom is my friend.
Are: You are welcome. They are here. The books are on the table.
